Throughout engineering you need to make accurate and precise calculations in order to get the final product you've been working towards. When building on a larger scale one wouldn't need so accurate calculations. A standard ruler may even do. But when building on a much smaller scale, accurate calculations are imperative. In this activity, we explored the uses of a dial caliper, a very precise tool of measurement. and perhaps the most common. We learned how to read a dial caliper and how to use it properly when making precise calculations.
The measurements I used were not identical to the ones of my teammates. There was only a slight difference in our measurements. Since the tool we used is so precise, one could be off by a few fractions of a centimeter even when the tools seem to be dilated the same.
Conclusion
1. An additional tool to use may have been a standard ruler to make sure ones measurement weren't entirely off.
2. The caliper provides the best measurements because it is so precise you can calculate the exact number you're looking for.
